Indigo-dyed business card holder model: 002 (left image)
This business card holder has been hand-woven by a tapestry weaver using silk thread dyed with Awa indigo.
Its greatest appeal is the beautiful texture created by the uneven Tsuzure-ori fabric structure, the luster of the silk, and the deep color of the Awa indigo.
The design is kept minimalist and stripped down to make the most of the texture.
Extremely fine gold leaf threads are used to create a mysterious straight line that is neither a chain line nor a solid line.
The distinctive gusset is hand-sewn using the Japanese dressmaking technique "chidori-gake."
The gusset of a typical business card holder is designed to fold inside the pocket, making it thick even when there are no business cards inside.
However, while the gusset made of thread ensures elasticity, it has no thickness when there are no business cards inside.
Therefore, even if you put it in the inside pocket of your jacket, it will not lose its silhouette. In other words, the traditional Japanese sewing techniques are highly aesthetically pleasing and have excellent functional beauty as a gusset.
■ About weaving
Tsuzureori is a type of Nishijin-ori textile that boasts a history of approximately 4,000 years.
It is rarely used for clothing, but is considered a top-class artistic textile that decorates special occasions and stages, such as stage curtains, decorative curtains for festivals such as the Gion Festival, and the obi belts for the highest quality kimonos. The oldest Tsuzure weaving in Japan is said to be the National Treasure "Taiman Mandala" at Taima Temple in Nara.
■ About indigo dyeing
